Strongly growing Natural Products Have Become the "Dark Horse" in Cross-channel Field.
In recent days, SPINS will publish its first "State of Natural Industries Report" and before this, shared some facts and figures in a webinar. One of the most important is that the natural food and beverage sector is growing faster than traditional industries. In 2018, the total food and beverage market reached US $448.2 billion, increasing by 1.7% year-on-year, and the natural food and beverage market reached US $47.2 billion, increasing by 5% year-on-year.
While natural foods accounted only for 10.5% of total food and beverage sales, they contributed 29.3% to the dollar's growth. Even in the traditional multi-channel retail channels, natural foods and beverages contributed 9.1 percent of sales and 27.4 percent to the dollar growth in the channels. The growth in the product category, which includes organic, plant-based and raw foods, accounted for $13.4 billion in cross-channel groceries and 3 percent of total food and beverage sales, but outpaced the overall market by 1 percent. The market for vegan products grew 10.1 percent to $7.1 billion in 2018, much of it coming from traditional multi-channels. While raw diet and grain-free products have been growing for some time, raw diet and grain-free products grew by 45.3 percent and 76 percent, respectively, across the traditional multi-channel.
